Lonavala honeymooning getaway is located in maharastra, india, Lonavala is also an outdoor enthusiat’s hotspot with many ancient rocks cut Buddhist caves majestic forts and rugged hills within easy reach.
Bushy Dam
This small dam just 6 Km outside Lanavla is the most popular spot for visitors. During the monsoon the place is packed with people as the water running over the steps of the dam creates and interesting waterfall. Visitors like to site on the steps as the water flows over them but you do need to be careful as there can be a sudden surge in water force and level. Absolutely no swimming is allowed in the dam. Also check out Ryewood Park’s Lake, Monsoon Lake and Pawna Lake.
Treks
Named after the proboscies neither of a British gover nor of the erstwhile Bombay Presidency the pinnacle of Duke’s Nose is locally known as Nagphani cobra’s hood. The sharp pinnacle can be a memanding technical climb from the valley but you have the energy. These are covered with thick jungle and teeming with birdlife.
Rajmachi Point is a popular lookout point in khandala offering a grandstand view of Rajmachi Fort and Ulhas River Valley. Tiger’s Leap, Beetle Point and Monkey Hill are other popular viewpoints. Getting to them involves varying degrees of difficulty.
Kerla and Bhaja Caves
About 15 km outside Lanavala are several rock cut Buddhist caves worth visiting. From Lonavala you can take an auto or local train to Malavli Station. From Malavli, Bhuaja lies on the right side of the tracks and Karla on the left when facing pune. The Archaeological Survey of India maintains the caves and there is a small entry fee Rs 5 for Indians and Rs 10 for foreigners.
Forts around Lonavala
Lohagad the iron fort was no named because it was considered impregnable. From Malavli Station walk 3 km or take an auto to Bhaja Village. From here a path climbs up gradually to the col between Lohagad and Visaput forts. The view from the top is spectacular. On the right one can see Valva Dam, Lonaval and the Expressway snaking its way through the hills. Also climb up to Visapur Fort ung fort koregad fort and Rajmachi fort.
Birdwatching lakeside picnics gentle treks and hikes, exploring karla and Bhaja caves and the forts around Lonavala and Khandala, getting wet at Bushy Dam having their favorite chikki and fudge.
